Edwardian Pattern Cutting System

I have a small collection of extant pattern cutting manuals from 1900, 1901, and 1902. The patterns are meant to be sized up using a set of scaled rulers that have unfortunately been lost to time. I have reconstructed the full set of rulers based on clues found in the manuals and calculations of expected measurements in the patterns themselves. I am also working to digitize and clean up the pages of each manual.

I am beginning the project of using these manuals to create a full Edwardian wardrobe. before I begin, I must recreate some underlayers that are not included in the manuals. My first task is to recreate cotton stockings, based on an extant gingham pair from the period. I have custom dyed cotton yarn for the purpose and mocked up a set of stockings using my flatbed knitting machine.

I have scanned the pages of the manuals to preserve the delicate booklets and so that I may make them available online. A lot of work has gone into cleaning up the images, as they were mass produced using a lithograph which can result in some interference from dust and lint. I have created a printer friendly version that will allow others to print their own copies of the booklets. I calculated the measurements of the missing ruler sets from scale 12 to 50. I taught myself to use a CAD program to create a printable set of the rulers so users of the manual will have access to the set.

I intend to use the manuals above to create and Edwardian wardrobe. My first task is to recreate a pair of cotton gingham stockings with hand dyed yarn using my flatbed knitting machine. Three mockups were necessary to get the fit right because cotton yarn does not stretch so the stockings must be made to measure.
